PROJECT SOCIAL JUSTICE

Project Social Justice is dedicated to advancing social, economic, and environmental justice in the United States and beyond. We believe that a just and equitable society is one where every person, regardless of race, gender, income, or background, has access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. Through rigorous research, policy analysis, and advocacy, we work to identify and address the root causes of systemic inequality, including issues such as income inequality and wealth redistribution, criminal justice reform, worker rights and labor protections, education access and affordability, gender and LGBTQQIP2SAA+ equality, and ongoing and newly created humanitarian crises. At Project Social Justice, we are committed to empowering marginalized communities and promoting a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.

ISSUES

BODILY AUTONOMY

Bodily autonomy is a fundamental human right that encompasses an individual's ability to make decisions about their own body, health, and well-being.

Issues related to bodily autonomy have gained increased attention in recent years, particularly in the areas of reproductive rights and sexual health, as well as issues related to gender identity and expression.

Reproductive Rights and Sexual Health

Access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare, including contraception and abortion, is essential for promoting bodily autonomy and allowing individuals to make informed decisions about their own bodies and lives. Unfortunately, access to reproductive healthcare is often restricted or limited, particularly for low-income individuals, people of color, and individuals living in rural areas.

In 2022 the Supreme Court overturned Rose vs Wade further highlighting the ongoing threats to reproductive rights and bodily autonomy, and the battle that lies ahead.

Gender Identity and Expression

Issues related to gender identity and expression are also critical for promoting bodily autonomy. The right to self-determination and the ability to express one's gender identity are essential for promoting well-being and mental health, and should be protected and respected by society and the legal system.

Several states have recently passed laws that restrict transgender individuals' access to healthcare and sports, and these laws have been widely criticized as discriminatory and harmful to the well-being and autonomy of transgender individuals.

Bodily autonomy is a fundamental human right that is essential for promoting well-being, health, and dignity. Issues related to reproductive rights, sexual health, and gender identity and expression are particularly relevant for promoting bodily autonomy and are currently the focus of significant attention and advocacy efforts.

DEFENDING DRAG QUEEN STORY HOUR

Drag Queen Story Hour is a program in which drag queens read stories to children in libraries, schools, and other public spaces. The program has faced significant unwarranted criticism and backlash from some groups who argue that it is inappropriate or harmful to children.

However, many supporters of the program argue that it promotes diversity, acceptance, and literacy, and that it is an important tool for creating a more inclusive society.

Drag Queen Story Hour is important for a number of reasons. Here are just a few:

Promoting diversity and acceptance: Drag Queen Story Hour promotes diversity and acceptance by exposing children to people from different backgrounds and identities. By showcasing drag queens as positive role models and members of the community, the program helps to break down stereotypes and promote understanding.

Encouraging literacy: Drag Queen Story Hour encourages literacy by promoting a love of reading and providing children with positive experiences related to books and libraries. Studies have shown that exposure to positive reading experiences can improve reading comprehension and overall academic performance.

Fostering creativity and self-expression: Drag Queen Story Hour can also foster creativity and self-expression in children by promoting an appreciation for the arts and encouraging individuality. The program can be particularly beneficial for children who may not see themselves represented in traditional children's media or who may feel marginalized due to their identities.

Drag Queen Story Hour plays an important role in promoting diversity, acceptance, and literacy in communities across the country.

By defending Drag Queen Story Hour and promoting its importance, we can work toward creating a society that values diversity and acceptance, and that provides positive experiences for children of all backgrounds and identities.
